BOY SCOUT TROOP 126 LONG BEACH, CA

BOY SCOUT TROOP 126 LONG BEACH, CA

Boy Scouts of America

Boy Scouting is a year-round program for boys around ages 11 - 17. Through the Boy Scout program, young men can achieve the core objectives of strengthening character, personal fitness and good citizenship.

How To Join

Troop members range in age from 11 to 17. Most of the boys join the troop in the spring (usually March) as they cross over from the Webelos program. Boys may join at any time and need not have been a Cub Scout. The Troop consists largely of boys living in Long Beach, but we also have Scouts from Cypress and Lakewood.

Advancement

Advancement through the ranks is an important part of Scouting program and we strive to help each scout to achieve his potential. Attendance at meetings is important to advancement, as is participation in main events. The Troop’s advancement program is another way we teach skills and offer opportunities to recognize each scout’s achievements. We have boys at all Scout ranks from Tenderfoot to Eagle. Each year, we have Scouts achieve Scouting’s highest rank, that of Eagle Scout.

Involvement

A Scout does not have to participate in every meeting or event or attend camp to advance. We understand the demands of school and the many activities that most boys have. However, the level of involvement in the Troop's program and summer camp is directly related to what a Scout gets out of the program. Therefore we strongly recommend that attendance at the Monday meetings be a priority and attending the main events be part of your son’s plans in order for us to support him in his scouting goals, and for you and him to support us as a troop.

Signing Up

The following forms are available through the Long Beach Area Scout Council website, our troop website or from the Scoutmaster.

  • B.S.A. Membership Application - This is required before participation in any activity or event. This is a two part form and must be signed by a parent. The scoutmaster has this form.
  • Troop 126 Permission and Consent Form - This is also required before participation in any activity or event. This is available on our website, and can be printed out as needed. We also attach the form to e-mails for each scout event, so you can print it out that way as well
  • Scout Medical Form - Make sure that all necessary medical information is provided. This is required for attendance at Camp Tahquitz and any out door trips. Once it is received it is good for one year only. The form is on our website and can be printed to take to your M.D.
  • Scout Skills and Parent Resource Form - Though not required, this form allows us to best understand the Scout and family.
  • Troop Dues - A check for $63 per year, prorated depending on when your son joins, made out to "Troop 126 " All troop members will receive Boy's Life magazine. All parents will receive Scouting magazine as a part of their membership.

NOTE: No boy will ever be discouraged from joining our Troop because of financial need. Financial assistance is available. Parents, please contact the Scoutmaster for more information.
